It is with some trepidation that Chapelkill Library announces the start of Under The Counter a new programme of regular sessions to be hosted in the basement. Taking place on the third Friday of each month, it is the first time the library has put on a performance down there since the controversial Summer Solstice Séance; an event that is still held responsible for the laming of three audience members and the ongoing spoiling of the town’s butter.
The first night features a set from The Sandie Shaw Dolls who’ll perform cover versions of Dandy Warhols songs in the style of Sandie Shaw. Their recent week long residency at Glossop’s Rat Pit sold out, so book early to avoid disappointment. Poetry and witchcraft come, of course, from Cheddar Stare (no introduction necessary), and the master of ceremonies will be DJ Lupoid, on weekend release from Risley Remand and spinning his own unique blend of smooth 80s soul and gabber. Pregnant women and Frenchmen are discouraged from attending the event.
